Frequently Asked Questions

What do you do at the Columbia Guitar Studio?

CGS is one of the unique centers for learning guitar in the country. A strong emphasis is placed areas of technique, musicianship, repertoire, and productivity.

What are the costs involved?

Lessons are $28.00 a half hour. There is no contract or registration fee. Hour lessons are avialble for students who demonstrate a special interest in the instrument.

I've seen other schools that charge 7 to 13 dollars more for lessons. Why is there such a price difference between schools?

Schools and music stores split their fees with the teachers. At CGS there is no middle man so fees are kept low.

Do you accept beginners?

Yes. In fact, beginners are preferred since there is less to change about their approach?

Do you teach children and at what age do you begin?

The children’s division is Calle EL Dorado and is open to those six years and older.

Do you have recitals for students to perform in?

Yes, twice a year in May and November.

Is CGS right for me?

If you are looking for structure and a progressive curriculum and understand that consistent practice is the only way to improve then you will do well at CGS. If, on the other hand, you are more into just learning a few chords your local music store might be a better bet.

Do you teach Bass?

Yes

Do you have openings?

Often there is a waiting list for openings. Every attempt is made to accommodate interested students find a time that works well for them.
